The Jhilmil residential park project, the country’s largest residential project under PPP initiative, is set to adopt a new technology in building structures.

It will likely to reduce use of manual labour and construction time, help avoid mishaps of traditional construction method, and offer a clean environment to work in.

SVC Jhilmil Residential BD Limited and Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory Limited (BMTF) signed an agreement on Wednesday regarding collaboration to this effect.

Chairman of SVC Jhilmil Professor Dr Sharifah Sabrina and Managing Director of BMTF Sultanuzzaman Muhammad Saleh Uddin signed the deal on behalf of their respective organisations.

Among others, Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Haznah Mohammad Hashim was present on the occasion.

The Tk 99.78-billion Jhilmil project is being implemented with RAJUK as the public sector partner and Malaysian firm BNG Global Holding as the private sector partner.

The project deal was signed between the two partners in 2017. But, construction in the country’s first mega housing project for middle-income group people is yet to start. Under the project, some 13,700 apartments will be built in four years.

The speakers in the deal signing ceremony on Wednesday said technology transfer is one of the key components of commitment and collaboration in preparing development index around diverse issues.

Dr Sharifah said the technology transfer, known as span piles, from Malaysia will help accelerate the process of construction. The piling work offers great speed in completion without worrying about weather condition and logistics.

The technology offers strong, earthquake-resistant concrete walls. Apart from this, it will have good economic impact, she hoped.
